Surrounded by the most fantastic nature, Reykjavik is the world’s northernmost capital and has a lot to offer: culture, shopping possibilities, warm baths and gourmet restaurants. It only takes three hours to fly from Copenhagen to Iceland, but it is like entering a whole new world. So if you want to pamper yourself with a “Well done” gift or just get away from it all, this trip will prove to be perfect!
You can find both calm and greatness in these ragged, rocky landscapes, green valleys, large waterfalls, huge glaciers and warm geysers.
Within a few hours driving from Reykjavik you will find many different wonders of nature. On the tour “The Golden Circle”, you will go to both the National Park Thingvellir, the impressive waterfall Gullfoss and the famous geyser “Geysir”.
You can shop in the very cost competitive fashion shops in Reykjavvik and experience the idyllic shopping street Laugavegur in the center of Reykjavik, where you will also find several shops and specialty stores as well as more “tourist orientated” places. You will also find the shopping center Kringlan, that has more than 150 store, restaurants and service facilities. This is an easy to hand shopping oppertunity in the new downtown area.
You can strole down Skólavörðustígur, a street close to Laugavegur with shops, exclusive gourmet butiques and several jewellery designers. If you like antique hunting, you can make a good deal at the flee marked Kolaportið, which is very popular due to its good offers and curiosities.
Most people have heard of The Blue Lagoon and this is a place you have to visit. In the geothermal, milky white, warm water, you relax in the open, and no matter what time of year, it’s an amazing experience.
If you like horse back riding, you can go on longer or shorter riding trips in the lovely landscape on the world famous Icelandic horses.
In spring and summer, you can go sailing to see both dolphins and whales. If you have a need for speed, you can go on trips on ATVs, in super jeeps or on snow scooters, and you can go river rafting, diving, fishing, golfing, etc.
There are also plenty of free pleasures. A walk downtown. Lots of special churches. Galleries and the scenic landscape, that surrounds the city.
In short: Iceland has something to offer all year round. Give yourself a good experience. Spend a weekend in Reykjavik!
